DISASSEMBLY

1. Inspect the differential bearings for damage or excessive wear. Install new bearings if necessary.
   

1. Using special tools, remove the bearing.
   Use Special Service Tool: 204-069 (T81P-1104-C)  Remover/Installer, Front Wheel Hub.
   Use the General Equipment: Puller

1. Using special tools, remove the bearing.
   Use Special Service Tool: 204-069 (T81P-1104-C)  Remover/Installer, Front Wheel Hub.
   Use the General Equipment: Puller

1. NOTE: If the ring gear is replaced, a new transfer shaft must also be installed.

   Check the differential assembly and the ring gear for damage.
   

1. Remove and discard the ring gear bolts.
   

1. Remove the ring gear.
   

ASSEMBLY

1. NOTE: Do not torque the 4 ring gear bolts.

   Hand-start 4 new ring gear bolts to align the holes in the ring gear and the differential case. Evenly tighten the bolts to seat the ring gear onto the differential case.
   

1. NOTE: Tighten all 16 bolts in 2 stages.

   Install the remaining new differential ring gear bolts and tighten all bolts.
   Torque:
     Stage 1:  24 lb.ft (33 Nm)
     Stage 2:  60°

1. If the bearings were removed, install new bearings.
   Use Special Service Tool: 307-587  Differential bearing installer and guide. , 307-791  Install, Differential Bearing (AWD).
   Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
