Lincoln Corsair: Automatic Transmission External Controls - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40 / Removal and Installation - Transmission Park Manual Release Cable

Removal

  1. Remove the battery tray.
    Refer to: Battery Tray - 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) – MI4/2.3L EcoBoost (199kW/270PS) (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
  1. Disconnect the upper park manual release cable from the lever.
  1. Remove the bolt and the upper park manual release cable retainer.
  1. Push the grommet and the upper park manual release cable into the driver compartment.
  1. Release the clips and remove the LH trim panel.
  1. Release the clips and remove the LH instrument panel end cap.
    1. Remove the steering column opening trim panel.
    1. Disconnect the headlamp switch electrical connector.
  1. Remove the lower manual park release cable retaining clip.
    1. Release tension from the cable.
    1. Postition the cable from the housing.
    1. Release the clip.
    1. Disconnect the cable.
  1. Remove the bolts and the lower manual park release cable.
  1. Remove the retainers and remove the upper manual park release cable and mechanism as an assembly.

Installation

  1. Install the upper manual park release cable and mechanism and the retainers.
    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
  1. Install the lower manual park release cable and the bolts.
    Torque: 36 lb.in (4.1 Nm)
    1. Connect the cable.
    1. Secure the clip.
    1. Postition the cable into the housing.
    1. Apply tension to the cable.
  1. NOTE: This step is necessary if the original component is reinstalled.

    Install the lower manual park release cable retaining clip.
  1. NOTE: This step is necessary if a new component is installed.

    Remove the shipping clip.
    1. Connect the headlamp switch electrical connector.
    1. Install the steering column opening trim panel.
  1. Install the LH instrument panel end cap.
  1. Install the LH trim panel.
  1. NOTE: Make sure cable routing is correct to prevent NVH.

    Pull the upper park manual release cable into the engine compartment and secure the grommet.
    1. Install the bolt and the upper park manual release cable retainer.
      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
  1. Connect the upper park manual release cable to the release lever.
  1. Install the battery tray.
    Refer to: Battery Tray - 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) – MI4/2.3L EcoBoost (199kW/270PS) (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
