Lincoln Corsair: Automatic Transmission - Automatic Transmission – HF45 / Removal and Installation - Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Pump

Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Remove the LHF wheel and tire.
    Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04A Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
  1. Remove the LH fender splash shield bolts.
  1. Remove the LH fender splash shield retainers.
  1. Remove the retainers and position aside the LH fender splash shield.

  1. Remove the transmission fluid auxiliary pump.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the transmission fluid auxiliary pump inlet and outlet tubes.
    1. Remove the bolts and the transmission fluid auxiliary pump.
  1. Inspect the transmission fluid auxiliary pump to be sure the transmission fluid tube seals and backing rings were removed with the transmission fluid tube and are not stuck in the transmission fluid auxiliary pump. If the transmission fluid tube seals or backing rings are stuck in the transmission fluid auxiliary pump, remove the seals and backing rings.

Installation


  1. Inspect the transmission fluid auxiliary pump tube backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.
    1. Backing ring (7J324)
    1. Seal (7D285)
      Material: Motorcraft® MERCON® ULV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-12-QULV (WSS-M2C949-A, ) (MERCON® ULV)

  1. Install the transmission fluid auxiliary pump.
    1. Install the transmission fluid auxiliary pump and the bolts.
      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
    1. Connect the transmission fluid auxiliary pump inlet and outlet tubes and install the bolts.
      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
    1. Connect the electrical connector.
  1. Position back the LH fender splash shield and install the retainers.
  1. Install the LH fender splash shield retainers.
  1. Install the LH fender splash shield bolts.
  1. Install the LHF wheel and tire.
    Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04A Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).
  1. Install the underbody shield and the retainers.
  1. Prime the Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Pump.
    1. Key ON, Engine OFF.
    1. Using the scan tool, command AUX_TLF_PMP to 80% for 30 seconds. If the pump cannot be commanded on, verify TFT is above 38ºC (100ºF).
    1. Clear DTCs.
  1. Check the transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary.
    Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check (307-01B Automatic Transmission - Automatic Transmission – HF45, General Procedures).
