For B clutch operation,

  B clutch


Condition Possible Sources Action
B clutch does not apply SSB is mechanically stuck off INSTALL a new solenoid.
REFER to: Solenoid (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Removal and Installation).
B clutch control valve stuck off DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the clutch control valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
REFER to: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Overhaul).
B CL CONTR, hydraulic circuit blocked/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary.
REFER to: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Overhaul).
B clutch piston seals INSPECT the components for wear and damage. CLEAN and/or INSTALL new components necessary.

B clutch drum/Reaction sun gear The B clutch drum and the C clutch hub are the same component. If diagnostics indicate both B clutch and C clutch failures, INSPECT the components for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
REFER to: Transmission (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Overhaul).
B clutch friction plates INSPECT the components for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
REFER to: Transmission (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Overhaul).
B clutch always applied SSB mechanically stuck INSTALL a new solenoid.
REFER to: Solenoid (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Removal and Installation).
B Clutch clutch control valve or B clutch latch valve stuck on DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the regulator valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
REFER to: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Overhaul).
B CL CONTR, hydraulic circuit cross leaks DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for leaks or damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
REFER to: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Overhaul).
B clutch friction plates INSPECT the components for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.

B clutch delayed/soft/slipping apply Incorrect transmission strategy programmed into PCM / TCM . PERFORM the Transmission Strategy Download,

Low line pressure PERFORM line pressure test.
REFER to: Special Testing Procedures (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Diagnosis and Testing).
SSB mechanically sticking INSTALL a new solenoid.
REFER to: Solenoid (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Removal and Installation).
B clutch control valve or B clutch latch valve sticking DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the valves. If a bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
REFER to: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Overhaul).
B CL CONTR, hydraulic circuits blocked/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary.

B clutch piston seals INSPECT the components for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.

B clutch friction plates INSPECT the components for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.

B clutch harsh apply Incorrect transmission strategy programmed into PCM / TCM . PERFORM the Transmission Strategy Download,

High line pressure PERFORM the line pressure test.

SSB mechanically sticking INSTALL a new solenoid.
REFER to: Solenoid (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35/8F40, Removal and Installation).
B clutch control valve sticking, weak or broken B clutch latch valve spring DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the valves. If a bore, valve, or spring is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.

B CL CONTR hydraulic circuit blocked/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary.
