Hydraulic Selectable One-Way Clutch (SOWC)

The hydraulic SOWC contains a One-Way Clutch (OWC) that is mechanical. The One-Way Clutch (OWC) prevents the input ring gear, reaction carrier and overdrive carrier from rotating backwards. The hydraulic SOWC also contains a “Selectable” One-Way Clutch (OWC) that is controlled by the SSD , pressure from the solenoid causes a strut to deploy, preventing the input ring gear, reaction carrier and overdrive carrier from rotating forward when deployed. In 1A the One-Way Clutch (OWC) holds power on, providing 1st gear ratio.
